The Unit Lead – Litigation within the Specialized Asset Management (SAM) Unit is responsible for leading all litigation, legal enforcement, and recovery‑related legal actions for defaulted and disputed accounts. The role ensures effective legal recoveries, minimizes financial and regulatory risk, and maintains strong compliance with legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements. As the legal expert for SAM, this role provides strategic guidance and supports management in achieving recovery targets while safeguarding the bank’s legal position.
• Define and execute litigation strategies for defaulted, disputed, or high‑risk accounts.
• Oversee filing, tracking, and resolution of recovery‑related court cases across regions.
• Manage settlements, decrees, execution petitions, and enforcement actions to drive effective recoveries.
• Prioritize high‑value and high‑risk cases to maximize recovery outcomes and minimize losses.
• Track legal recoveries against cost and timelines, ensuring efficiency and transparency.
• Advise SAM leadership on legal viability of recoveries, settlements, waivers, and write‑offs.
• Appoint, manage, and evaluate external legal counsel and law firms handling SAM litigation.
• Negotiate legal fee structures, monitor service quality, and ensure performance accountability.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, court procedures, and internal policies.
• Support internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews with accurate legal documentation.
• Maintain complete, organized, and audit‑ready legal files and case documentation.
• Collaborate with Credit, Business, Compliance, and Risk teams to ensure alignment on legal strategy.
• Identify legal risks across the recovery portfolio and recommend mitigation actions.
• Serve as the legal advisor for SAM leadership on matters involving litigation or enforcement risk.
• LLB / LLM from a reputable institution with valid Bar enrollment.
• 10–12 years of experience in banking litigation, recovery cases, or financial disputes.
• Strong understanding of banking laws, recovery frameworks, contract enforcement, and court processes.
• Experience handling high‑volume or complex litigation portfolios.
