Assistant Manager Strategy Research & Development

Job Details:

    • As an Assistant Manager in Strategy Research & Development, you will be responsible for building the bank's
    • intelligence base and translating it into strategy-grade outputs. You will conduct structured research across
    • internal and external sources, track competitive developments, assess the bank's own performance data, and
    • contribute directly to strategic initiatives that shape Mobilink Bank's direction.
    • This role suits someone who reads widely and thinks carefully — someone as comfortable building an Excel
    • model as they are structuring a boardroom presentation. If your idea of a productive day involves finding a
    • signal in a noisy market and turning it into something a decision-maker can act on, this role is built for you.
    • Research & Market Intelligence
    • Conduct ongoing external research on industry trends, emerging technologies, regulatory
    • developments, and macroeconomic shifts relevant to Pakistan's banking and fintech landscape
    • Identify global best practices in digital banking, microfinance, financial inclusion, and payments —
    • and develop considered views on their applicability to Mobilink Bank's operating model
    • Monitor primary and secondary sources including SBP publications, CGAP reports, industry
    • journals, analyst briefings, and international financial institution research
    • Maintain a structured knowledge base of research findings, market intelligence, and strategic
    • reference material that the wider team can draw on across planning cycles
    • Competitive Intelligence
    • Track and analyze competitive developments across Pakistan's banking, microfinance, and fintech
    • sectors — including product launches, strategic pivots, partnerships, and pricing moves by priority
    • peers
    • Build and maintain ongoing competitive profiles of key institutions and synthesize findings into
    • actionable intelligence for the department's planning cycle
    • Proactively identify patterns in competitor behavior and market positioning before they become
    • obvious — this is a forward-looking function, not a reporting one
    • Internal Data Assessment
    • Conduct structured assessments of the bank's internal performance data across relevant business
    • verticals, identifying trends, anomalies, and strategic implications
    • Collaborate with Finance, Product, and Operations to source and validate internal data for strategy
    • use cases, ensuring analytical integrity across all inputs
    • Support the development of analytical frameworks and decision-support tools that enable the
    • department to provide evidence-based recommendations to senior leadership
    • Insight Structuring & Communication
    • Translate research and analytical outputs into clear, well-structured presentations for senior
    • leadership and executive audiences — accuracy and visual clarity are non-negotiable
    • Build high-quality Excel models, trackers, and dashboards to support strategic analysis and
    • planning deliverables, with rigorous attention to data accuracy and logical structure
    • Develop written briefs, strategy memos, and executive summaries that distill large volumes of
    • information into clear, well-argued narratives
    • Own the quality of your deliverables end-to-end — formatting, logic, and data accuracy before
    • anything leaves the team
    • Strategic Project Contribution
    • Support the design and execution of strategic initiatives across the bank's priority agenda, including
    • digital transformation, SME banking expansion, sustainability programs, and new business
    • development
    • Contribute to project planning, workstream coordination, and milestone tracking on cross-
    • functional strategy projects, ensuring outputs are delivered on time and to standard
    • Assist in building business cases, strategic proposals, and initiative frameworks for leadership
    • review and approval
    • Engage with internal stakeholders and external partners to gather inputs, align on deliverables, and
    • ensure strategic projects are grounded in evidence and clearly reasoned
    • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or a related discipline;
    • MBA or postgraduate qualification preferred
    • 2–4 years of relevant experience in strategy, research, management consulting, or financial analysis
    • within banking, fintech, or professional services
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct primary and secondary research, synthesize complex information
    • from multiple sources, and extract meaningful strategic insights
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel — including financial modeling, pivot analysis, dynamic
    • dashboards, and structured data management
    • Strong command of Microsoft PowerPoint — with the ability to produce clean, executive-level
    • presentations from raw analytical inputs
    • Clear written communication: ability to produce a well-structured brief that says something specific,
    • precise, and useful
    • High attention to detail — you notice what others miss, and you do not send something out until it is
    • right
    • Ability to manage multiple workstreams in parallel without losing quality or missing deadlines
