DLH-Support Engineer

Job Details:

    • We are hiring a Managed Services Support Engineer to monitor, triage, and resolve issues across our Data Lakehouse (DLH) pipelines. The primary ecosystem is an Iceberg/MinIO-based data lakehouse, using Trino as the SQL query engine, Airflow for orchestration, and Grafana and OpenMetadata for monitoring and governance. The database/DWH layer runs on Oracle. This role is structured to cover monitoring, first response, and triage, deeper troubleshooting – where required, root cause analysis, and incident ownership responsibilities.
    • This is a shift-based role. Candidates must be comfortable working nights, weekends, and public holidays as part of a rotational roster, since pipeline monitoring run on a 24x7 basis.
    • Monitoring & Support
    • • Monitor scheduled batch jobs, ETL pipelines, and file arrivals; proactively report failures or delays to the appropriate stakeholders.
    • • Run predefined SQL queries to perform basic data validation checks on pipeline output.
    • • Navigate *nix file systems via command line to check log files, verify file presence and size, and perform basic file operations (copy, move, permission checks).
    • • Verify file movement across systems using SFTP/FTP, confirming successful transfer and flagging discrepancies.
    • • Identify obvious query or job errors and independently own and resolve complex incidents, performing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and document findings.
    • • Troubleshot upstream/downstream pipeline failures across ETL workflows in DLH ecosystems, including Iceberg/MinIO/Trino-based pipelines.
    • • Write and debug SQL to investigate data inconsistencies and query failures.
    • • Perform data validation, reconciliation, and ongoing monitoring of batch processes to catch issues before they become incidents.
    • • Troubleshoot batch job failures end-to-end, using log-based diagnosis and basic shell scripting to automate recurring checks.
    • Communication & Incident Management
    • • Communicate status and any delays to internal stakeholders.
    • • Maintain and contribute to a knowledge base of recurring issues and their resolutions, to reduce repeat escalations.
    • • Hand over shift status clearly and completely to the incoming shift, flagging any open or at-risk items.
    • • Education: Bachelor’s/master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
    • • Experience: 2 to 3 years of experience in Platform engineering or related fields.
    • • Key Skills:
    • • SQL
    • • *nix/Shell
    • • File Transfer
    • • ETL/DWH/DLH Concepts
    • • Batch/Job Monitoring
    • • Incident Handling
    • • Working knowledge of Python for scripting and automation (log parsing, file validation, alerting).
    • • Direct exposure to Apache Iceberg, MinIO, or Trino, or a strong ability to map existing DWH/RDBMS knowledge onto a lakehouse/object-storage architecture.
    • • Familiarity with S3-compatible object storage.
    • • Experience with Airflow or similar orchestration tools for pipeline scheduling.
    • • Prior experience in a Managed Services or an Operational role.
    • Soft Skills:
    • • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in an agile, fast-paced environment.
    • • Strong triage instinct — able to quickly separate noise from a genuine, critical issue.
    • • Clear, calm communication under pressure.
    • • Comfortable with shift work and odd hours, including sustained attentiveness during quiet overnight monitoring windows.
    • • Ownership mindset — sees an issue through to resolution or a clean handover, rather than stopping at initial triage.
    • • Willingness to learn unfamiliar tools quickly.
